Hong Kong ItineraryOn October 27, 2024, I embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Hong Kong, flying with Cebu Pacific Air. I was one of the lucky passengers, along with my friends from the Davao Bloggers Society, joining the inaugural flight. It was a memorable and fun experience.

The vibrant city of Hong Kong is known for its stunning skyline, rich culture, and delectable cuisine. It was the perfect destination for a quick getaway with friends. Here’s a recap of my travel experience and the highlights of my trip.

Departure: Cebu Pacific Air Experience

Cebu Pacific Air now flies directly from Davao to Hong Kong four times a week. They are known for their affordable fares and reliable service, making them a popular choice for travelers. Now, it’s easier and much faster to get to Hong Kong from the Land of Promise. The flight lasted almost four hours and was smooth, especially since I was with my friends.

Arrival in Hong Kong

It was my first time in Hong Kong, and as we were about to land, I spotted islands and amazing structures. I was amazed to see high-rise buildings and advanced structures on the islands. The airport itself is a marvel, featuring modern architecture and a lot of shops and restaurants. My airport experience reminds me of my travel to Korea in 2019. Rode a train inside the airport going to customs and all.

After clearing customs, we quickly made our way to the bus station and looked for Bus A21. We boarded the double-decker bus and paid using our GoTyme card. It took us almost an hour to reach our destination.

Accommodation

When we arrived at the bus stop, we were already in front of the building where we were staying. We stayed at Atlas Guest House and Backpackers, which was incredibly convenient since it was right in front of the bus stop and within walking distance of famous tourist attractions in Tsim Sha Tsui.

For booking, you may follow them on Facebook here.

DAY 1: A Culinary Adventure at the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival

On our first night, we attended the Wine and Dine Festival, the largest wine and food festival in Hong Kong. We were lucky to have passes for that night. From our hotel, we walked to the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Victoria Harbour, then hopped on the Star Ferry to Central Ferry.

We enjoyed watching the Observation Wheel first then entered the festival venue. The festival showcased a variety of international wines and gourmet dishes, making it a paradise for food and wine lovers. I sampled different wines, each with unique characteristics, and paired them with delectable bites from local vendors. The energy of the crowd, the live music, and the stunning waterfront views created an unforgettable experience.

Dinner at Gwing Kee Roasted Restaurant

After indulging at the festival, we headed to Gwing Kee Roasted Restaurant located at WK Square. This restaurant is renowned for its mouthwatering roasted dishes, and it did not disappoint! We opted for a sumptuous set meal that included:

Roasted Geese: Tender and flavorful, the geese were perfectly cooked and served with a rich sauce.
Pig Trotters: A delicacy that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, showcasing the chef's skill in preparing traditional dishes.
Cold Cuts: A variety of meats that were expertly sliced and seasoned, making for a delightful appetizer.
Steamed Vegetables: A refreshing side that balanced the richness of the roasted meats.

The combination of flavors was incredible, and I savored every bite!

Cebu Pacific Promotes Philippine Textile ArtsOn January 8, 2025, I attended an exciting event at the Balmori Tent in Rockwell Makati, where Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ leading airline, launched a new initiative to promote tourism and celebrate Filipino culture. They introduced QR Flight Codes, which are inspired by traditional weaving patterns from local communities.

The QR Flight Codes encourage everyone to explore the country’s heritage while enjoying their travels. Candice Iyog, CEB’s Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, shared, "Cebu Pacific takes pride in honoring the rich tapestry of our nation’s cultural heritage. Using our business as a platform for inclusive and sustainable growth, we celebrate the artistry of our local weaving communities, ensuring their timeless traditions are preserved and their stories are appreciated by every Filipino,”

Unique Weaving Styles

The QR Flight Codes feature five traditional weaving styles from different regions. Travelers can scan these QR codes on billboards and in magazines to learn more about these weaves and discover attractions in their areas.

  • Binakol (Ilocos Norte): Intricate, nature-inspired designs.
  • Ramit (Occidental Mindoro): Beautifully colored stripes.
  • Hablon (Iloilo): Bright colors and iconic plaid patterns.
  • Patadyong (Antique): Bold, colorful checkered designs.
  • Yakan (Zamboanga): Striking geometric patterns.

Working with Local Communities

Cebu Pacific partnered with local weaving communities to ensure the stories and significance of these fabrics are shared. Collaborating groups include:

  • Paoay Weavers of Ilocos Norte supported by Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) (Ilocos Norte)
  • Hanunuo Mangyan of Occidental Mindoro supported by the Awati Ti Kape Community Development Program (Occidental Mindoro)
  • Baraclayan Weavers Association (Iloilo)
  • Patnongon Multipurpose Cooperative and Bagtason Loom Weavers Association (Antique)
  • Yakan by Oriental Weaves of Zamboanga supported by MMSU (Zamboanga)

Iyog emphasized, "Every weave is a community’s cultural fingerprint with a story to tell, just as every destination has a unique offering and experience. We encourage every Juan to scan the QR Flight Codes to explore more of the Philippines and learn about our rich culture and heritage."

Jul 13, 2024

On July 2, 2024, Cebu Pacific (CEB) announced a groundbreaking agreement with Airbus to acquire up to 152 A321neo aircraft, a deal valued at US$24 billion (PHP 1.4 trillion) at list prices. This represents the largest aircraft order in the history of Philippine aviation.

Expected to be finalized by the third quarter of this year, this landmark deal highlights CEB’s steadfast dedication to bolstering the Philippine growth narrative.

Following this monumental agreement, CEB is set to further expand its network across key hubs in Manila, Clark, and Cebu. The airline will resume flights from Clark International Airport to Davao, General Santos, Iloilo, and Puerto Princesa, thereby enhancing connectivity for travelers between north and central Luzon and the Visayas-Mindanao region.

Additionally, CEB will introduce new routes, including flights from Manila to Kaohsiung and Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport, as well as from Cebu to Masbate, San Vicente, and Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport.
