I am a self-confessed lover of bread. I don't know why but I like the texture and the sweet taste that I can't stop eating it. When I need something to nibble, I look for bread. Please don't judge me. Hahaha! Also, I love watching cooking and baking shows like Bake with Anna Olson and Cake Boss.

When I learned that the Davao Bloggers Society was invited for a baking workshop, I think I was the first person to sign up. I feel fidgety writing this blog because I am really excited to share my first baking experience with you guys. It's definitely one for the books!

First of all, the Philippine Baking Institute invited us and conducted the baking workshop inside their facility at Ecoland Drive, Davao City. last May 28, 2016. They are a premier baking institute in Davao City which offers baking education by certified and professional instructors. Our instructors/chefs for the day were Chef Steve Lim and Chef Francis Mangubat. Some participants, including me, attended another event in the morning. We joined the baking session at around 2PM. Some of our friends from DBS already baked pandesal and Spanish bread in the morning.

The first lesson was how to bake Brownies. I'd like to share the recipe so you can also try this out.

Ingredients:
250g Butter
6 pcs Large Eggs
450g Brown Sugar
5g Salt
5ml Vanilla
390g All Purpose Flour
80g Cocoa Powder
80g Cashew
2g Baking Soda
70g Dark Chocolate/Unsweetened (optional)

Procedure:
1. Melt butter and cocoa powder in a double boiler. Let it cool after.
2. Add in eggs one at a time and mix.
3. Add dry ingredients and fold.
4. Add the sugar mixture.
5. Bake at 160 degrees Celsius until baked.

The next pastry we baked was Pineapple Tarts. I don't have the recipe so I'll just share some photos.

The last pastry we baked was Butterscotch.

Ingredients:
360g Butter
800g Brown Sugar
100g Glucose
30ml Vanilla
6pcs Eggs
720g All Purpose Flour
30g Baking Powder
15g salt

Procedure:
1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
2. Cream butter and brown sugar.
3. Add eggs one at a time.
4. Add vanilla extract.
5. Add the dry ingredients.
6. Fold in nuts and dried mango.
7. Bake at 160 degrees Celsius until golden brown.

I forgot to take photos of the Butterscotch because we were all excited eating all of it! Hahaha! But wait, we can't end the baking session without a major #flatlay! #FlatlayGoals :p

I am grateful to join the baking session at the Philippine Baking Institute. Actually, I've been thinking of taking baking lessons before when I had a lot of free time. When I learned about their wide range of professional baking education, I think this is something to look forward to. I might have a new hobby soon! :)

A new coffee and milk tea shop opened last August at The Peak of Gaisano Mall of Davao. Bean Leaf offers a variety of coffee and flavored milk teas that everyone will surely love. We were invited at the grand opening last August 15 and we tasted their delectable food and drinks.

To start the Grand Opening Ceremonies, a barista showed his skills in flairtending and Mr. BeanLeaf came out to dance for us. So cool and cute!

The cutting of the ribbon was facilitated by the BeanLeaf Master Franchisee for Davao Mr. Jim Sawers and BeanLeaf CEO Randy Salamat. It was also graced by Councilor Louie Bonguyan and Ms. Sweet representing Gaisano Mall.

NUTELLA OVERLOAD
- I ordered this because the staff told me this is one of their best-sellers. It is very “chocolatey.”. It’s like I’m sipping Nutella and dark chocolate at the same time. Too sweet.

LEMON FRUIT TEA
- I haven’t tried this one but my friend Claudine Chua said, “To tell you honestly, I loved it. I have been craving for it ever since.” (Photo credit: FashionVenom.com)

CITRUS MALUNGGAY FRUIT TEA
- When my co-bloggers went to their food tasting event before the opening day, Clea Banal shared that this became their favorite saying, “ Our favourite was Citrus with Malunggay. It's refreshing and a must drink during summer. Doesn't taste Malunggay or Moringa at all! Perfect sinker would be Nata de Coco. It has green tea so it's healthy.” (Photo credit: CleaBanal.com)

We also tried their CAKES IN A JAR. It has three flavors - Black Forest, Salted Caramel, and Cookies and Cream. My favorites were the Black Forest and Salted Caramel.

We had a great time at the grand opening and soon after the shop became crowded with customers. Experience the difference by visiting Bean Leaf at the Peak of Gaisano Mall of Davao.
